Melanie graduated with a B Tech in Textile Science and Textile Technology in 1982 and worked in technical roles in the manufacturing industry for the next 10 years.

She joined the UK Health and Safety Executive’s Field Operations Division as an operational inspector regulating the engineering and foundries sectors.  From 2000-2010 she regulated onshore major hazard sites, before moving to an operational strategy role.  In 2012 she joined the Energy Division, inspecting, investigating and assessing safety cases for a range of production and mobile operators.

In 2018 Melanie joined the Operational Policy Team of HSE’s Energy Division where she helps to ensure that HSE maximises its regulatory impact. One of the wayshe does this by seeking early engagement with operators to discuss new projects during the concept design phase.
