The Epicentre of the Global FPSO Cycle

Why Brazil & Why Now?

Brazil is not just another FPSO market - it is the anchor of the next global investment wave. With ultra-deep pre-salt fields, large-scale redeployments and a strong pipeline of newbuilds, decisions made in Brazil will shape FPSO demand, technology choices and project models worldwide. And for technology providers, EPCs, shipyards and service companies, this translates into a long-term, high-value opportunity set – from newbuilds and redeployments to integrity, life extension, decarbonisation and digital optimisation projects.

46 Operational FPSOs

Brazil hosts around 46 FPSOs today, the largest fleet of any country and roughly a quarter of all FPSOs in operation globally. Making it the primary global theatre for FPSO investment, operations and project execution, offering unmatched scale for owners, contractors and suppliers.

770,000 bbl/d From the Mero FPSOs

The four FPSOs and an early production system in the Mero pre-salt field now provide 770,000 barrels per day of installed capacity, illustrating the scale of Brazil’s new generation of projects.

Brazil’s pre-salt developments continue to set the benchmark for ultra-deepwater productivity, system complexity and FPSO performance expectations

Tens of billions in upcoming FPSO capex

Industry forecasts indicate that upcoming FPSO projects in Brazil will command well over USD 30 billion in capital expenditure over the next decade, as operators move ahead with new pre-salt developments and large upgrades. Indicating a strong opportunity for solution providers and entire value chain.

70% of regional FPSO awards

Over the last five years, around 70% of all newbuild FPSOs awarded in South America have been allocated to Brazilian projects, underlining the country’s leadership in floating production - which eventually is influencing commercial frameworks, technical standards and procurement strategies across the continent.

Next-generation mega-FPSOs

Brazil’s new pre-salt units are being designed in the 180,000–225,000 barrels-per-day class, setting new benchmarks for processing capacity, gas reinjection and low-emissions operation.

Sustained investment commitment

Petrobras’ 2025–2029 business plan alone foresees USD 111 billion in investments, with the majority directed to offshore exploration and production, including new FPSOs and field revitalisations
